Mushroom Cloud Productions makes first sale
12-11-03 / West Keansburg, NJ
Approximately two hours after the www.eatthemushroom.com website launched successfully, the first official order for Edgar Allan Poe's Berenice was placed. The lucky purchaser was Scott Arnold of Bethlehem, PA.
As part of our ongoing effort to reach out to the community, our editorial staff contacted Mr. Arnold for his thoughts and comments on the process. Wannabe Writer Christian Twiste explains, "We contacted him immediately and he replied, but his comments reflected so badly on us that were forced to just make everything up."
"You have to understand, nothing you see here is true, " adds Self Appointed President Geoffrey Ciani. "It's all a very bad illusion like the special effects in The Clash of the Titans."
Problem Solver Scott Hackett was immediately assigned the important task of making it seem Mr. Arnold's purchase was smooth and easy like the type of experience you would find on a real website. He was dispatched immediately to Pennsylvannia to confront Mr. Arnold and determine the truth—or Mushroom Cloud Productions version of it—whichever works better for the site.
Less than a week later, our editorial staff was hot on the trail of this dramatic story. Scott Hackett caught up with Scott Arnold at a local watering hole in Bethlehem, PA.
He gives this account of Mr. Arnolds comments. The following quotes are from Scott as told by Scott and we cannot verify their authenticity. We are printing them here for representative purposes only.
"I must say I was amazed," Mr Arnold begins. "These guys are sharp and talented. They sold me a DVD that doesn't even exist yet. How amazing is that. Purchasing nothing. It's truly revolutionary.
"And that's not all. I contacted Christian to see when my credit card would be charged," Mr. Arnold continues, "and he told me it already had been!"
Mushroom Cloud Productions staff members could not be reached for comment.
