Controlled Insanity:
An exclusive look at the first novel by Cameron Twiste

1-15-03 / West Keansburg, NJ

According to our sources the following scene unfolded in a cheap, dimly lit bar shortly after New Year's Eve.

We have not been able to verify any of these reports, but several people present—all speaking on condition of anonymity—have stated that the reclusive, camera-shy author Cameron Twiste met with his brother and Wannabe Webmaster Christian Twiste.

While the subject of those discussions is known officially only to the participants, it is widely believed that the two met to discuss adding content from Cameron's first novel to the main MCP website.

According to one report that has helped to shed some light on the situation, the meeting was peaceful up until a point.

"What the hell are you talking about?" Cameron began. "I already asked you to put something about my novel on your site and you told me to beat off."

Christian Twiste was not available for comment. Reports at the scene suggest he shrugged, drank deeply of a dark pint of Guinness and replied "I guess a few drinks will do that to you."

A week later MCP Editorial received the following materials. They were sealed in an ordinary brown envelope, unmarked except for the mailing information.

There was no return address provided. The envelope contained a only a brief section of manuscript and these terse instructions written in a weak, spidery hand:

Post soon or die.

The following are the complete contents of the envelope:

Have you ever been haunted by the past? Maybe a few bad experiences continue to creep into your dreams when you least expect it? Or worse yet, maybe something horrible happened in yesteryear that you'd just as soon forget?

I'd envy you if you don't, but I'd have to call you a liar in the same breath. Everyone is running from something and it is human nature to deny that which causes us pain. But sometimes the past comes calling, and usually when you're least prepared to face it.

Now what if you were so immersed in the past that it consumed you, controlled you, and echoed through your very being. Could you stay sane, or would it slowly drive you towards the brink? What if your life was reduced to a constant battle between control and insanity? Do you think you could survive or would you eventually succumb to the madness?

Controlled Insanity is a journey into the deterioration of the mind. It is a novel about a psychologist who can't escape his demons and is living in a state of perpetual denial. He is imprisoned by his memories and is constantly reminded of the past as his very livelihood depends on it. Through his patients he sees all of his own mistakes, raw emotions, fears, and desires, as well as the desperation of a future he's trying to avoid.
